82% Indian Professionals Believe Companies Prefer Skills Over Degrees: LinkedIn Report

Most young professionals now prefer to join organisations that align with their belief systems, a new research by LinkedIn, an employment-focused social media platform, has found. More and more professionals are taking control of their careers and are choosing "non-linear career paths" to meet their goals, the research said.

It further found that there had been a shift in the way that job-seekers looked at their career prospects as people choose skills over degrees to explore their career opportunities.

"20 years ago, professionals might have decided on their careers based on things like their degrees or where they lived and the proximity of available jobs," it said. The shift has been because of "skill-based" hiring as 82% of Indian professionals agreed that companies were comfortable hiring professionals with "right skills".

The study was conducted by Censuswide and involved 1,000 workers aged above 18 between April 6, 2023 to April 12, 2023.� �

- 84% Indian professionals believe that in the future employers will value professionals with diverse skill sets and experiences over those who are specialised in a certain job function.

-82% of Indian professionals agree that companies are now more comfortable hiring professionals who don't have relevant work experience but have the right skills.

-Over 8 in 10 professionals say skills are more important than degrees.  

-88% professionals say they would prefer to work with organisations that align with their belief and value systems.  

-87% believe that it is important to continually learn new skills, while 85% believe that transferable skills are now more valued and acceptable.  

-82% feel that it is easier to change careers now as it was 20 years ago.  

-For 84% of Indian professionals, a strong network is equally essential for career growth and success, with over 71% agreeing that networking as a skill can be learnt over time.
